More on Health Care Reform

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
osaka
This is the latest update I've received regarding the government health care petition I asked everyone to sign a couple weeks ago:

"Friends -

"Thanks for being a part of the team. In one month, over 330,000 people have signed saying no, to government health care!  We are now receiving between 15,000 - 20,000 signatures every day. We ask each of you to reach out to at least three friends this weekend, as time is of the essence. With your help we will have 1 million-plus signers to deliver the petition to the Congressional leaders and the White House. http://www.freeourhealthcarenow.com/

"Per your request, for our 437 Tea Party Patriot chapter partners, we have prepared a health care power-point presentation with teacher's notes for your health care day, on Friday, July 17th. Every one of you can be an expert on free-market health care! http://actionpack.ncpa.org/  Don't forget to ask everyone to sign the petition, and have their voices heard. http://www.ncpa.org/pdfs/healthcare_petition.pdf  Remember to return the completed petitions to us!

"We are in the battle of our lives. President Obama and Congress want to force employers to pay for health insurance reform. Although the details aren't completely settled yet, the idea is to create a new federal mandate that would force employers to provide health insurance for their employees - or pay a penalty tax to the government. Of course, they don't actually use the dirty words "tax" or "mandate", rather the legislation uses words like "shared responsibility" and "contributions" to the government. Of special note, members of Congress, are going to vote for you and me to have a government-run plan, but not going to join us - they are going to keep their current taxpayer-funded plan.

"If that doesn't get your attention, this will! The government is about to force employers to pay for employees' health insurance with an average cost of $12,000 per employee per year or $6.00 per hour. This new health care mandate will effectively increase the federal minimum wage from $7.25 to $13.25 per hour. There will be massive layoffs and entire industries who employ hourly employees are at risk. This is a direct hit to small businesses, the job creating sector of our economy!

"This is truly a partnership! If you have not signed, please do so! If you have signed, forward the petition to three friends who have not signed and let's move those numbers. www.freeourhealthcarenow.com  You can keep track of our progress on our website www.ncpa.org - just click on the ticker link under the Eagle. 500,000 - 1 million, here we come! We are fighting for our freedom!

There once was a goil from New Joisey,
Who said, "Oiban living's too noisy!
      I can't stan' Passaic,**

And book me a plane bound for Boise!"

The author of Queen of Glass now has an agent!!!!  This is amazing and wonderful and spectacular news...  It's really cool to be a part of watching her reach her dreams in such real ways, especially after all these years.

It also doesn't hurt that I was already feeling pretty happy when I saw the news.  : )

The adventures continued!

This break has turned out to be quite full so far!  Looking back, I can label each week or half week of it: a week of rest, a week of family, a half-week of friends, about a week of math... and now about one week to go, but which will probably be labeled "job searching."

Last week I actually got to see some friends again!  Lizzy came over for New Year's Eve - we watched Nausicaa, which I got for Christmas, and hung out and caught up.  On Saturday, I got together with several other friends from high school and we had a great time playing video games, chatting, and going out to Friendly's.  It was so good to see them again!  It was sad that a couple people couldn't make it, though.  : (

On Sunday, I left for Washington, D.C. )

And now I have a week left until classes start!  I hope to spend the time looking for a summer internship, since I will have very little time for that during the actual semester.  We'll see how that turns out.  ^^;

The Holidays with Family

Well, I'm back home safe from Cincinnati!  The real safety issue was actually the trip there, but I guess we must have survived that, too.  ; )

It was fun spending time with that side of the family again, and we had some good times, including watching A Christmas Story (which I'd never seen all the way through before), going out to see a performance of Twelfth Night (another Shakespearean comedy, and so soon after As You Like It!), and going out for Italian (which took about 3 hours because there were 15 of us and we chose the family dinner plan, which came in three bottomless courses).  There were also the usual things, such as playing four square, eating out at Skyline Chili, and watching Popeye and Rocky and Bullwinkle (the cartoon series versions).

We actually arrived home again on the 29th, but we spent a good portion of yesterday spending time with my dad's side of the family (Cincinnati was my mom's side), something that really needs to happen more often.  The last time we got together was actually for the triple graduation party this past summer (for my brother and two of my cousins), but usually we hardly ever see each other.  We had a lot of fun yesterday talking, playing on a Wii (I joined in on Wii Music and then played Guitar Hero for the first time), and singing karaoke (something I've almost never done but which was actually pretty fun).  Hopefully we'll continue to make efforts to get together more often; it really is worth it.

Anyway, wishing everyone a happy end to 2008... and see you on the other side of midnight!  : )

Hemingway was once challenged to write a story in only six words. His response? “For sale: baby shoes, never worn.” He is believed to have called it his greatest literary work ever. Can you write a story in six words?

See Jingo Day

Yup, that's what today was!  Jing spent the summer taking classes, so she's only in town for half a week.  Because of this, [info]rappleart3 organized this day as one where the group of us that wanted to see her while she was around could, and so we did!  We hung out, went out for dinner, and had a great time talking and laughing, quite reminiscent of old times.  Incidentally, this was also the first time since January that I got to see a couple of my other friends because this summer has been so hectic and busy.  It was so wonderful to see people again; it's both been too long since I've seen them in particular and been too long since I've gotten to hang out with a group, period.  I've certainly interacted with people this summer, but that's not the same as hanging out with a group of great friends.  The former brings warmth to the spirit, the latter brings warmth to the heart... : )

Sick cont.

Not much to really say about today - I basically slept a lot and worked on the homework I had due.  I skipped everything - church, meals, vespers, Hunter - which I think was probably the best decision.  I've gotten through everything I needed to get through for now at least, which is good.  And I absolutely will go to classes tomorrow, 'cause I just plain can't afford not to.  But yeah.  I hope I can fall asleep tonight.  >.<

Boo, sickness

Add to Memories Tell a Friend

Meh.  I is sick.  I is pretty bad sick.  I managed to get through the (amazingly fun) Sidereals session on a couple of ibuprofen, but this is not a good sign for the next couple days.  I slept in quite a bit today and spent the afternoon finishing up my Sidereals character, I attempted to take a nap, and then other than meals and the session that was it.  I did not work on homework at all, but mainly because I was just feeling really bad and only willpower got me through the afternoon.  Unfortunately, even if my profs would be nice enough to push back assignments for me, I don't think I'd want them to because if I fall behind I will probably never catch up and that would be bad.  So.  Lots of sleep tomorrow, plus physics and ethics stuffs, and that's probably it.  Oh, and the Hunter session.  Though I'll have to see if I'm even feeling well enough for that, though I don't like the thought of skipping that, either.  Hmm.

Anyway, sleep.  Anyone have advice for getting better sooner?

Interesting day

Today was sort of... interesting.  In many ways.  I won't recount all of the ways, but needless to say... twas interesting.

The internet, which fizzed, for me at least, some time on Wednesday, took until late in this evening to actually be fixed for the most part... and boy am I glad to have it back.  Procrastinating takes 10 times longer when the internet is slow!!  XD

In physics lab we got to play around with electrical circuitry and whatnot, with what turned out to be a fairly simple lab packet to fill out along the way.

The OSG meeting went well, as normal... and we even managed to pull off asking a question that took a serious, touchy topic and turned it into something amusing (i.e. what fictional character would YOU make the president of the US if yours was the only vote that counted?).

Lots of homework this evening to do, but at least nearly all of the physics stuff was postponed to MONDAY because of the issues with the network (huge w00t there!!!), so I'll actually be getting some sleep.  Foundations homework was pretty fun... I got to draw a whole bunch of machines (basically logical diagrams with arrows and whatnot), which made me happy.  The little bit of physics I still had to do wasn't bad.  Abstract is still coming along... but I'm going to have to finish that tomorrow.  Sleep comes first.

Good morning, all!  I guess I should report in on yesterday now, eh?

There were definite happy things that happened yesterday, despite it being busy busy busy.  I didn't use my time very productively as far as classes go, though...  I realized at some point later in the day that I have three mega homework turn-ins for Friday, and that brought me back down to earth.  I only just barely got started last night before I decided I really needed to sleep some.  I ended up sleeping the rest of the night away, especially since there's nothing due specifically for today, just tomorrow.  I don't know how much sleep I'll be able to get tonight, sadly, but at least I'll be coming into it with some...

Oh, and Anathema broke [info]ladyarkham's computer, which subsequently broke [info]whirlwindmonk... who I assume is trying to break it back.  It was quite amusing to watch.  XD
